Participation belongs to the whole neighborhood
How neighbors make a difference.
Bring a specific experience to the meeting: what is happening, where it is happening, who is affected, and what you would like to see next. Listening to other residents matters too—shared priorities are more visible when the people affected help name them.
Three useful ways to take part
- Attend and listen. Learn what agencies, community groups, and neighbors are working on.
- Speak to a local concern. Ask a question, offer context, or share a solution.
- Help build the work. Volunteer, join a committee, help with outreach, or encourage a neighbor to come.
Bylaws & program rules
How the program is structured.
Each council is independent and may adopt its own bylaws. Tacoma Municipal Code Chapter 1.45 establishes the Neighborhood Council Program, while the City’s Standards and Guidelines describe administrative responsibilities and expectations for the City, councils, and the Community Council of Tacoma.
City support
A link between neighborhood knowledge and City decisions.
The City program supports council engagement through its program framework, council links, district map, and standards. Councils can use the forum to bring neighborhood concerns, priorities, and goals to the City and to discuss policies and programs that affect their communities.
Keep meeting information current. This is a review draft prepared from City and council-published information. Confirm the date, location, format, accommodations, and agenda directly with the council before attending.
